Ionic bonds result when electrons are tranfered between atoms.

Covalent bonds result when valence electrons are shared between atoms.

covalent bond and ionic bonding between atoms not molecules, any way, covalent bond is sharing electrons between tow atoms have the same electron affinity (high) ,almost happened for non metals(C-H) .ionic bonding occur between tow atoms have different electron affinity high&low, high tend to accept electons ,low tend to  donat electrons, almost happen beteen metals &non mealsNa+ + Cl → NaCl

covalent bond is sharing electrons between tow atoms

Ionic  bond is transfer one  electron or more to form atom to anther atom

and this  makes one atome ( + )called cation and  one atom( - )called anion

Chemical bond is the attraction force which hold two and sometime more atom together. When this attraction force is achieved by sharing the electron density of two atoms between their nuclei, it is called covalent bond. On the other hand when there is complete transfer of electron from one atom to another it create ionic species called cation +vely charged species (one who looses electron) and anion -vely charged species (one who gain electron), this lead to electrostatic attraction between cation and anion and that force is called ionic bond.

In reality, most of the bond have ionic and covalent character. As the difference between electronegativity of two atoms increases ionic character of bond between these atoms will increase while covalent character will decrease.

Covalent bonding is most common between nonmetals, while ionic bonding is more common between metallic and nonmetal atoms. ... In contrast to ionic bonding, where ions are bound by undirected electrostatic forces, covalent bonds are highly directed. As a result, covalently bonded molecules tend to form into distinct shapes.

Covalent bonding occurs through electron sharing by atoms in the molecule while ionic bonding occurs through transfer of electrons from the external shell of one atom to another.

An ionic bond essentially donates an electron to the other atom participating in the bond, while electrons in a covalent bond are shared equally between the atoms

covalent bonds : between two metals

ionic ionic bond : between metal and non metal

Covalent bond enjoys the electron pair by both atoms at the same time. While ionic bond is formed by completely losing or gaining of electron by an atom
