From my perception,
The first quality that the employers will look into will be the "Suitability of your Resume", which projects yourself in all spheres related to the advertised position. Hence, preparation of Resume in accordance with the "Job Position" plays a vital role for freshers.
The second is "Preparation" for the interview. Employers always prefer candidates those who are really interested in the vacant position as well as the Company. Hence, the freshers have to prepare well in advance for the interview by increasing their knowledge about the "position" and its general job functions, and the suitability of the job functions to the individual, options for development, and more importantly about the Organization and its business.
The third will be "Honest Approach" during interview. The freshers should be able to sell themselves with an honest approach by answering the interview questions simply with suitable examples. If they don't know the answer, they should be able to say "No", but not try to bluff.
The fourth will be "Basic knowledge" in their chosen subjects, projects, general knowledge, current affairs, technology, industrial scenario.....name a few. By preparing, freshers can get positive nod from the employers.
The fifth will be "Skills & Competencies" - Apart from good education, freshers need to possess required skills and competencies related to the job they apply for.
Apart from the above, employers will always look for good Attitude, Team Work, Willingness to learn, commitment to deliver, and enthusiasm in work.
Last but not least, freshers need to communicate effectively as all the above can only be conveyed/expressed at the right time during the interview just because of possessing good "Communication Skill".
