Teachers are motivated when they are given ample opportunity for professional growth and appreciation for good work.  When the leader in the school i.e. the Principal leads from front meaning there by, taking all the blame for things that went wrong and passing on the good to the teachers.

I have been a Teacher Trainer for over 10 years and have worked with more than 1,000 teachers. I will address this question from the standpoint of training teachers. Motivating teachers requires two steps to take place. The first step is to be a good example for them. By ‘good example’ I mean being knowledgeable, competent, passionate, positive, professional, flexible, patient and empathetic. When you exhibit these qualities, teachers will quickly see what kind of person you are and will be inclined to respect you. Respect will lead to trust. Trust is the second step required to motivate teachers. When you have teachers’ trust, they will listen to what you have to say and they will be open to trying new things. Thus, once you have achieved this, motivation will come easily. In conclusion, being a good example and earning the trust of teachers is the best way to motivate them.
