Online Mechanical Design Engineering Courses

The list below contains overviews of some of the most common online courses in mechanical design engineering.

  • Mechanical Design Engineering Course: This course covers the operational analysis, evaluation and problem solving methods of mechanical design engineering. Skills, such as inventiveness and creativity, are discussed as students practice evaluating and finding solutions to real-world mechanical design engineering problems. Topics include designing for dynamic response and the design of power transmissions, deflection and complex mechanical sections.
  • Engineering Materials Course: Students learn about the atomic and molecular structures of materials used in engineering in this course. Included is a discussion of the physical, chemical, mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of metals, composites, ceramics and polymers. The course discusses characteristics, such as strength, mechanical behavior and thermal properties, along with phases and phase diagrams.
  • Tolerancing and Geometric Dimensioning Course: Students learn how engineering drawings and models use tolerancing and geometric dimensioning to communicate theoretically perfect geometry and allowable variation. The standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers are discussed in depth as students learn about the major symbols and tolerance types used for features like form, profile, orientation, location and runout.
  • Computer-Aided Design Course: Using and optimizing AutoCAD software and peripheral equipment to design computer-generated 2D and 3D mechanical engineering drawings are the focus of this course. Students learn how to navigate the AutoCAD user interface along with basic terminology and fundamental features of the software. By the end of the course, students know commands and techniques for creating, manipulating, editing, storing and presenting accurate and aesthetically pleasing technical drawings. This course requires AutoCAD software.
  • Structural Design in Wood Course: Engineers must be familiar with many types of materials, and wood is one of the most common. Students in this course will analyze the process of building with wood, and they will learn about the many properties and types of wood. Upon mastery of the structural concepts, students will begin to make their own designs.

According to my work experience SOLID WORK is the best and convenient to use and then other software is also good which is depend on company which software they use

the design programs are a lot to use such as soliworks, autocad, catia and inventor, for the mechanical engineering design, they all are similar, and differentiate a little from one to another, so it depends on the project you working , and you're familiarity with the program, some are comfortable and used to catio, and inventor, others used to solidworks, about me, i use solidworks, for 3D modelling, assembling and simulating, also ANSYS simulation, so i am just comfortable with it as it's unlimited and i can use it for all projects i have and to cover all the options i need for the project

for Machining solidedge is used, as it output the file necessary for machines to print and manufacture the

part you designing

so nawadays, solidworks, catio and inventor are the most programs used for design, and it will up to the engineer who designing and the project he/she working on

Here is the list of CAD software that are focused mainly on mechanical design and parametric modeling:

AUTOCAD.

Creo parametric.

Solid Edge.

AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor are the staples, but I recommend also learning SketchUp (free) and Blender (or other animation/modeling software) because taking your part/design and making it look nice for presentations can be invaluable.

I agree with the rest answer
