In order to synchronize a generator to the grid, four conditions must be met:

  1. Phase Sequence
  2. Voltage Magnitude
  3. Frequency
  4. Phase Angle

All Above condition is must technically at the same time you need to tale the approval from grid.

To synchronize a generator with a grid the following condition is essential.

A Frequency

B Phase sequence

C Phase angle

D Same voltage

To know above condition we use Synchroscope or using three lamp method.

In order to connect the synchronous Generators to the power grid without large current and powertransients, the amplitude, frequency, sequence, and phase of the SG no-load voltages have to coincide with the same parameters of the power grid.

As the power switch does not react instantaneously, some transients will always occur. However, they have to be limited.

Automatic synchronization of the SG to the power grid is today performed through coordinated speed (frequency and phase) and field current control for synchronization and P and Q control.
