"Recruitment is a process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the requirements of the staffing scchedule and to employ effective measures for attracting the manpower in adequate numbers to facilitate effective selection of an efficient working force" - According to Dale Yoder.

Thus, recruitment is the process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating and encouraging them to apply for jobs in the organization.  the more the number of applications better the scope for management to recruit better people.  but we need to remember that employees are also on the lookout of better offers and employment.  thus, recruitment is the process of creating a link between those having jobs and those seeking them.

The importance of recruitment is that its effectiveness (or non-effectiveness) will directly affect the functioning of the business.  the issues are

  1. it helps to ensure availability of critical manpower for continued operations.
  2. it ensures quality of manpower which would be a strategic advantage to the business.
  3. if customers are the 'kings', employees are the 'queens' in the organization; wihout them you cannot move your organization an inch forward - and recruitment facilitates this.
