What's the best way to protect your hard drive data?

I think all options must do, but regular backups very easy to normal user

I think all will be good with periodic time

 run chkdsk at least once a week 

 run scandisk at least once a week 

 using updated antivirus

use any proactive materials

option (A) is to protect the data to have some save point to go back to that particular save point in case of any emergency, otherwise I see all the options are suitable to protect the hard disk in a prevention manner. Thanks. 

I choose letter A..make back up always to protect data

Regular backups would prevent from loss of data but rest should help also.

Doing a regular backup using reputed backup solutions. Also implementing RAID levels for multiple harddrives
