Basically they are the same. But coming to strict business terms we can see the word SALES used to denote large volumes of quantities transacted and sale is when a single item is sold.

2- B2B
3- B2C
4- C2C
all industries vary from product to product where we have to understand the situation of customer and his buying power. when we talk about "Sale" & "Sales" these are different terminology as per my education and experience
"Sale" is what i am selling
"Sales" is what addition service / value which customer will get from my "Sale".
if my "Sale" is successful and additional "Sales" [ Value Addition ] brought some good experience for my customer then he will retain till the end of my life. it is also called business on the table. where you can do your Point of "Sale" & Action of "Sales".
A sale is an offer and sales is the final agenda of all products or service
Sale is well describe as products are display in the stores which the specific price and promos.
Sales is were the company computed in accessing the volume of his selling in the entire month period or specific time frame.
