What would be the ideal strategy to manage some of the aging workforce in the organization?

If we want only “A” players on our team, we should be willing to let go of people whose skills no longer fit, no matter how valuable their contributions had once been. Give them a handsome severance package to support them in after effects. Really???

This is one of these bizarre things.  "Hey, we've got a really great employee who knows the business well, loyal, everything.  We could retrain them, or update their skills, which would cost, maybe the equivalent of a few months salary at the very most but no, let's fire them and spend that money on hiring somebody we've  never heard of."
