Why are most of the people not able to differentiate between marketing and sales?

only Uneducated and non of concerd business community or peoples dont understand differenciate in the meaning of sales and marketing.

They are actually two sides of the same coin. However, according to my experience the diference is very simple - " Marketing is the art of Lying very sweetly, and sales is the art of Dying to sell that lie".

According to my experience the difficulty is to understand what actually marketing means.
Most of people associate marketing with advertising, which is an obvious mistake.
Marketing is about creating value of the product in such a way that customers will find it as the one meeting their needs in the best way.
Advertising is to make customers aware that the product exists and promot its benefits.
It is of course simplification.
The product itself is not enough to generate the sales obviously.
Marketing is about making people decide to choose particular product, it starts the whole sales process.
But sales itself is to make people do the transaction and actually buy the product.

I Agree with Anna Nowakoswska on the the problem is misunderstanding between the meaning of marketing and sales  According to the CIM : Marketing is the managment process that responsible for Identifying and anticipating and satisfying customer needs profitably But sales is the action of selling something.
I believe the problem also is that , sales is the results for the marketing activities so people see from thier perspective that we are selling the product and don't know the real situation.
from my point of view I found Marketing like a director in a film and the sales like an actor ...
finally people see the actor on the screen but the real value in the marketeer :)
