I agree with mr.Abid Irfan' s execellent submission on the importance of rural development. However, there are others for instance; it reduces on the poverty levels, it tries to balance or address the defect of regional imbalances, it also reduces on dependence levels where the rural areas largely depend on urban areas for everything, it boosts Agriculture because its the main economic activity in most rural areas etc.

Inadequate farming or Agric skills & competencies
Inadequate capital
Poor infrastructure like poor roads to transport produce
Poor quality produce
Perishability of some produce
Unfavourable or harsh climatic conditions
Inadequate government support as industrialisation & others sectors are priotised
Agriculture extension is basically applied to build capacity of the rural farmers if properly implemented to increase their productivity which ultimately increases income of the farmers.
Agriculture extension works as a messenger between the farmers and Agriculture Dept to implement proper technique in the right time.
