Yes competition is good for encouraging productivity. But the competition should never be against each other. I mean that in the sense that one team should not lose out because another did well. You can have them both competing for the same prize, such as a bonus. You could have a bonus that both teams could win if they perform to target, and have a soft target of recognition for the highest achiever. Overall cohesion in employees is good for morale and for achieving a lot organisational goals, so any competition that is created should not be at the expense of team spirit between teams.

Sure, a healthy competitive spirit aids productivity among team members and outside. It is left to the supervisor of the group to make sure they monitor the team's activities and put things right when they are going wrong. Competition is also welcomed and when it is aimed at improving productivity, the best and safest way must be employed to avoid chaos or quarrel among team members which may now lead to it's negativity.

Definitely creating a healthy competition improves the productivity level.

Positive or healthy competition, promotes an “everyone wins” attitude where team members work collectively toward a common goal and the reward is communal.

Negative or unhealthy competition is similar to zero-sum game, in which the success of one independent party depends on the failure of the other involved party. This type of competition seeks to benefit one party while damaging the other, which promotes fear, hostility, anger, and decreased respect within the teamwork.
