I did not worked upon SAP and unable to answer. I worked on Maximo and its very good software for corrective & Preventive maintenance.
Both software evaluated In parallel for Computerized maintenance management systems(CMMS) and are used with the same weight for daily or shutdown activities/resources planning and scheduling. Planning a shutdown is usually done in Primavera or Microsoft Project and is scheduled on CMMS.
Maximo Is the better option than SAP in any terms like Cost/Maintainence/Navigation.
For a well integrated system SAP is better and it has got lot of reports for analysis , MTBF(mean time between failures) & MTBR ,preventive maintenance,scheduled maintenance,calibration with respect to Maintainence of equipment(linked with Quality management),Scheduled Maintenance linked to production capacity etc.
