Vinod Jetley
by Vinod Jetley , Assistant General Manager , State Bank of India

The roles of the business owner and the manager of a business are separate and distinct and are equally significant to the success of any enterprise. In the family business, the roles are usually performed by the same people, leading to some unique problems that don’t affect public companies. While it’s possible for owners and managers of a family business to wear manager and owner hats concurrently, few business owners seem to realize they cannot wear both hats at the same time.

A manager only manages, an owner owns the company (usually sole owner).

An owner can hire a manager ( general manager )
