Dana, I believe that it depends on (High\Ultra communication skills); I think that it is the major role of any project and its outcomes is how people deal and communicate with each others.
People or employee will communicate together through any way of communication, meetings, Online meetings, e-mails, phones and etc to: Develop workflow Share ideas, knowledge and experience.
Keep updating Set milestones Brainstorming and many others, so if they well communicate effectively, they will achieve each one’s goal and their common goal of project success as well.
If you are talking about an exact software App that is the best tool to use for team collaboration, honestly I did not use any before, but I can search and ask some people if you want a recommended one.

Collaboration is very important for the success of any project.
so it must be taken seriously by any professional project manager.
Two areas of knowledge interact very closely for achieving the collaboration issue ,these areas are the human resource management and the project communication management.1-The human resource management plan in collaboration issue, secures the acquiring of the good project team which can be well trained by training programs, co-location,team-building activities,ground -rules,and a fair award -recognition techniques.
2- The communication management plan is very important for the project collaboration because it secures the followings: - Good identification for the stakeholders of the project.
- Good communication plan using the best of technology, models.
methods and procedures of communication.
-Good stakeholders expectations management plan -Good performance and report management plan.
-Effective information distribution management plan.
Excuse me for this long answer ,only because the question is too big and the issue of good collaboration for any project ,depends at the same degree on all the factors mentioned above.
