What is the difference between Hotel & Motel ?

Motel is just a parking space usually for overnight stays whereas hotel is a full establishment providing parking, lunch, long stays, laundry and a ton of services. 

I think a motel is meant to offer overnighting, while a hotel offers a wider service including restaurants, parking, gym, ....

agreed with all , and still prefer hotels 

Hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on short term basis only and provides numerous amenities to guests which may increase their lodging satisfaction.

Motel is an establishment that provides short term and long term lodging usually located with good access to the national road network but with less guest comfort.   

Hotel should be understood in bigger terms and giving wider value added services as you stay 

Motel - provides only Economical  accommodation without any services

Besides this, the major difference is the locality of a motel, motels are mostly situated at highways, outskirts of villages, cities, and towns where travelers can spend night. Hotels are commonly in the middle of cities or near tourist places.
