Facebook has its own monitoring and analysis tool available for Facebook admin accounts which is pretty useful.
For Twitter www.twittercounter.com is useful in pulling out reports and run analysis.
These are the two basic applications I recommend.

It depends on how big the company and who this report is going to.
A decision maker should not be bothered by detailed reports he should see an overall report and the most important things that should concern him is the level of engagement and the ROI and decide whether the company should invest more money on this channel or should come with a better strategy.
Unlike specialists the reports should be their new best friend because it indicates which posts the fans liked and got the highest level of engagement to keep it in mind making the new strategy.
These tools are available on most sites for free.
Facebook has its own analytics, Linkedin and Google Plus..Unlike Twitter which hasn't created this tool yet.

There are different tools to use when it comes to social media.
There are also some other powerful tools were you can schedule your content to be published.
When it comes to monitoring platforms, I would highly recommend TweetDeck.
But if you're looking for monitoring, scheduling and team assigning tools, you should check out Hootsuit.
It is not even expensive when going on premium :)

There are two different terms: Monitoring (listening) and Analytics (measurement).

1- Monitoring helps you to listen to your audience and track your channel, or more particular: your Brand on social media (whether in your own accounts/pages or other accounts) minute by minute in order to: respond to any questions, and/or solve any problems, Some tools to use: Social Mention, TweetDeck, HootSuit (currently using it)
2- Analytics is your tool to measure your channel performance, in order to have insights to improve it, such as: when to post (time/days), type of posts (photos, videos, links..), content, influencers...
etc (recently used SocialBakers)
