As an ER nurse, i keep myself calm during an emergency by asking God to render me enough knowledge and skills (Yes prayers is still the best), then assess fully what is the emergency, focus on what has to prioritize first, then coordinate with your ER ROD calmly and clearly.
The emergency is a big part of my profession and I learned how to keep calm because during my training in very large iternational institutionws as The Cleveland Clini Foundation and The policlinico Gemelli in Rome I aquired so much experiance that I know what to do in any surgical case and its complication
I will face type of Emergency,in example small fire i will attend fire fighting,if big fire i need fire squad and evaluate.
The best way to stay calm in an emergency is to always take a step back and fully evaluate the situation in front of you. do not just jump in to help the first person screaming. take a full global overview of the people not screaming. Full global assessment before close up patient assessment, do everything methodically, and the rest will flow from there
