Meta tags are used to provide information about the html document . for eg . for search engine you can provide some keywords in meta tag.
<meta name="keywords" content="jobs,vacancies">
Or it can be used to put the description about the page
<meta name ="description" content="Website for job posting">
It is also used to provide the character set information used for the page.
The information provided in this tag is not displayed on the page instead parsed by the machine.
