It searches the other related information to a very similar data in another database with the considering data. Here a word with a space do not match to the same word in the other location without that space. 

For example, you want to prepare a database of your employees from a seperate excel sheets. Assume one sheet contains the Name of the employee, Joined Date and Post. Another excel sheet contains employees names and their Basic Salary. Now You wanna Insert a column to this second excel sheet to know the Joined dates of that employees. Without typing manually, you can use Vlookup formula to trace the joined dates to the employees of the second excel sheet.

The Formula is as follows.(replace cell reference instead of the below texts)

=vlookup(employee name,select the data range of the reference and Press F4 to Fix the data range,type the number of the column that your outcome result consist,false)

 

in excel it looks like below

=vlookup(A2,Sheet2 $A$2:$D$500,2,False)
