In civil engineering What is the difference between Foundation and Footing?

The term Footing is used in conjunction with shallow foundation commonly.

A Footing is the part of foundation or a foundation unit in brick work masonry or concrete under the base of walls or columns for the purpose of distributing the load over a large area. A Footing or a shallow foundation is place immediately below the lower part of super structure which transfers the load directly to the soil.

 Basically the Footing is below the Foundation.

A footing is a foundation under a concentrated load

The footing is below the foundation and provides better stabilization and angering of I-beams

foundation is more general than footing

footing is  under a foundation

not different between footing and foundation .
