Your teaching should be student-centered. What works for one student may not work for another.

Neither one is in se, the best method. What works for your student is the way to go. With advanced students I tend to use the socratic method, but such an approach would never work for beginners who have absolutely no command of the English language.

I think ESL teachers shouldn't worry much about applying teaching methodologies because there is a myriad of teaching philosophies out there. I believe that every teacher is an artist and can apply his or her expertly crafted vision in teaching English. Go ahead and shine !
