Drops when provided should be rectangular in plan and have a length in each direction not less then one third of panel length in that direction the benefits is to   Prevent columns breakthrough in slabs

It is provided below slab to make the slab safe from shearing and rupture as slab is supported by column below it and it may occur that at column position slab be cracked even damaged so drop panel is provide to make it safe
