Different sub networks will not communicate each other wihout routing. inorder to make it work we can change the subnet mask.
its done by turning on the bits in host portion of subnet mask
for /24 =...
ie =255.255.255.0
(We can tell by this that the range of IP is Class C)
No: of working hosts =254 ie2^8 -2 (2^y -2 where y is number of0's or host bits)
The two ips of256 (2^8) goes for Network ID and Broadcast
/24 =255.255.255.0 =...
0 are number of hosts which is8 so formula to calculate the host is
2^n -2 =2^8 -2 =254 (we subtract two because we can't use1'st address as it is netword ID and we can't use last address as it is Broadcast address)
It means the subnetmask of192.168.9.0255.255.255.0 you can use ip address range192.168.9.1 to192.168.9.254
192.168.9.0 means subnet ID,192.168.9.255 means broadcast address
It is a Class C IP address default subnet

There are256 actual addresses, but the0 and255 host addresses are not usable giving you only254 usable addresses.
1 Network Id
1 Broadcast Id
254 useable ip addresses
total=256 (0-255).
you use this formula2^h-2
where h is the number bits of host
Usable Range will be:256-2=254
NID will be the Ist IP and BID will be considered the last IP
you will get254 usable ip's whereprefix=24.
254 ip address valid for users ,1 ip address for network ip and1 ip address for broadcast ip
You will get254 host per subnet and subnet mask is255.255.255.0.
No of usable IP's in each network = (2^8)-2 =254
