You have to test your backup to ensure that it works. After the first test, you need to make sure that your backup it periodically tested in order to ensure its effectivness.

If we are talking about IT here, then the media is another issue that you want to ensure its effective storage and effective lifetime. In some cases (depending on the ROI of your backups) you will need to have dual backups and sometimes on-site and off-site backups. In some highly sensitive cases, you might use backup sites and those also must be periodically tested (both the process and the equipment).

yep; you can prove that your backup is working; but the question is; is it effective? How to (know) what transactions from different departments has been stored on the database between the last backup and the time of disaster specially (document serialization) from the same department.

if you are not sure why need backup

is it just to tell the boss yes i have taken the backup

not sure your self what you have done is any how usefull rather extreemly dangerus

backups are always used in working miirror conditiions to veryfying uptodate convergance

And in the masters always have slaves for redundancy and high availability this way risk of loosing transactions are verymuch reduced and if you find complaints of lost data than application's storing procedure would come in unconsideration. as those are ineffective if the fail to store and veryfy store procedure successfully.

yes i can prove by restoring the backup once or twice in a month and then up the servers in testing environment.

Very smart question, i beleive that you can not prove that your back up is working unless you have tested and then you can certify that copy ONLY is working with prove...

for non-critical business this is a risk they are willing to take and compensate this risk by regularly requiring the System department to restore regularly, monthly or by-weekly.

For critical business, the choice of Passive DR Site is the right solution witgh automated task to compare Production vs DR in certain time frame to assure syncronization...
