To start with, you have to be a creative teacher. From here one can give out creative topics or ideas for the student to express on. At this point, hand over the reins to the student and let them approach it freely. Words form pictures and these pictures form an experience. The products of these exercises can be used in teaching two important aspects of creative writing:

1) Identifying good form and method. Good creative ideas have a certain rhythm to them and if you can identify and harness that rhythm, the writing will be nearly automatic.

2) Developing the personal style of the individual student. Everyone has a little something that makes them different. From the previous point, you can develop the students' individuality and style. After all this is art of the written kind.

The question for me would be , "how do you teach someone to be creative", let alone a creative writer. Creativity is based on the individual self. The darkness they swirl into words, the colours they paint into sentence's, the art they stir into paragraphs....I think the better questions would be is,

How do you teach yourself to see creativity?

How do you help someone bring forth his own creativity?

How do you help an artist create his own master piece?

Most of the time, we don't even see the magic behind words, and the power behind art.

However, I would bring forth a topic first. A very generic one that everyone could write about. I would be interested as a teacher in seeing each persons style of writing based on a topic I chose to use as a whole.   From there I could get a better idea on the style each student uses, the strengths each student has and the weaknesses each student has. Although, most of the time weakness lies in the grammar, or spelling. Its very hard to mark creativity , as I mentioned before its like a piece of art. Every person thats reads may feel slightly different, like different parts of the writing, and wish for different parts for change.

Writing is an expression of self, if you read deep enough, you can find out allot about the author.
