Even though I like traditional Marketing, I prefer online Marketing. I do not mind both every now and then.

A smart well thought out combination of both traditional and digital marketing is necessary. I'm not a huge fan of the word "viral" as it has the potentially negative implications.

An Example: E-mail spam advertising and marketing continues to be a leading annoying and highly irritating methodology which just bugs the hell out of the customer/client and people in general.

However this can be smartly regulated by a well thought-out process paying attention to the relevancy as well as frequency and importance of the message.

Madam It all depends upon the profile and age group of the customer. If the product is a mobile phone or laptop or touch screen desktop the audiance wouldbe young . They use online tools to shop and  viral marketing  should be given dominance.

Whare the target audiance would be an older generatin who would prefer to feel the product , would like opininon of others then traditoinal methods would work best.

It would also vary from region to region.

In such a tough and competitive era, i think we should prefer the best marketing tools of any category.

Good Question.

Though the preference usually would be based on each 'Target Market' & it's feasibility (ROI) & Budget set.

Still on practical terms it's both.

If the Objective is to maintain a regular touch by engaging, updating on the changes, new products, promotion's carried etc to majorly "Targeted to young population or customer's on move" with our existing & potential customer's would use more of 'Viral Marketing' Strategies with use of Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter etc & also link the traffic to our company website etc

To engage or to have maximum reach usually for 'Mass Marketed Brands' (Young or Old without classification in the Target Market) for instances like making announcements like: The special Promotions (Like National Promotions), new collaborations, New Brand/Category Launch or business updates i would prefer Traditional channels like print Media (Based on our Target Audience), Press Releases etc

I would also use Innovative marketing such as in-store (BTL) activities, Sign boards display (At key locations), stands, Instore Displays (For Branding) etc

Though it would be an standard procedure of anticipation, as in marketing or facing competition nothing is constant, thus the above can also be inter changed based on situation to situation.

Mixture of both. Traditional marketing methods cover mass audience whereas viral marketing is more target focused.

It depends on your Market Audience, so you should start with setting the right Basis of segmentation then classify them to different profiles according their behaviors (Psychographic   & Demographic ) after that you will be able to identify the right method for the right customer .
