Smarketing is the process of integrating the sales and marketing processes of a business. The objective is for the sales and marketing functions to have a common integrated approach. This can lead to annual revenue growth of up to20%, according to a study in2010. The objective is to promote the product or service to potential buyers and at the same time integrate this process with the sales department's activities. Sales and marketing departments should meet frequently and agree on a common terminology, and using data throughout the entire sales and marketing process to identify good prospects and to follow up on how well they are followed up. Smarketing works best when a firm does closed loop reporting by tracking its success with particular prospects from the marketing stage through direct sales efforts. According to one source, Smarketing began around2000 as a result of improved web browsing capabilities.

SMarketing: Where S stands for Sales  & Marketing. Thus is (Sales) & Marketing

 

This is relatively latest terminology which signifies the importance of working of 'Sales' & 'Marketing' together or as aligned as the objective is for the sales and marketing functions to have a common Integrated Approach which would add a great value to the company, customer's, Ensures time management, proper coordination of teams from a level of Lead to actual sales & thus an higher levels of compatibility. 

It is thus an Strategic Alignment between sales and marketing teams to realize ultimate impact and growth for the business

That's why there is an great wording that says 'When sales and marketing align within a business, great things can happen'   :-)

 

 

I was thinking of 'smart marketing', but this is not definitely the case.

Smarketing from my new understanding is just a new terminology for a process that has always existed in most business ventures. The sole purpose of marketing has always been to gain prospects and drive sales of new and old products. Coining the word Smarketing thus makes this process a more conscious effort on the part of the sales and marketing team to work hand-in-hand to develop strategic and effective ways to ensure that marketing in fact increases sales.

A Team engaged with the function of both and the organization do not want to distinguish them in two way.
