The compression ratio of a Diesel engines ranges from14:1 to as high as25:1.

What I know about it , is that they can have an range of D:16-20, but I think that is special

The CR will customarily exceed 14:1 and ratios over 22:1 are common. The appropriate compression ratio depends on the design of the cylinder head. The figure is usually between 14:1 and16:1 for direct injection engines, and between18:1 and23:1 for indirect injection
