In fact it depends upon2 factors:1. your core competencies,2. your career stage.
if your core competencies are in sales then you should not leave your job because in sales chances of growth are vast and there are many opportunity in which sales and marketing are related to each other. if your core competencies are in marketing, you level of interest is there and you are at a startup of your career, then you should search for your marketing job.
Marketing is à science , it is not like sales . I advise you to résign , take formal marketing management éducation and thén you can be qualified for marketing .

Marketing and sales are corelated to each other.but in marketing field u can enhance your skill good as compare to sales field.If u wish to make ur career in marketing thats a good idea because market is full of consumers you have to take surveys and decide how to make consumers satisfied with your product once consure prefer your product your market will touch high and all the best but once i would lyk to say market is broad it only focus on customer satisfaction on sale of goods....goodluck..
