I liked the following answer that I quoted from somewhere!

A quoted answer: "Strictly defined, a customer is someone who buys goods or services from a store or business.

The word "client" can also mean "customer," according to the American Heritage Dictionary, but it has a separate definition as someone who receives professional services. In business, the two terms are often applied differently based on the types of relationships built.

Customers are generally people who come to you mainly to buy products or services you supply. Clients buy your advice and solutions personalized to their particular needs."

Word client is used for a person/entity to whome you are rendering your services. Whereas Customer is term is used for a person/entity to whom you are selling your goods.

Client = to whom you need to drag attention. They are "the potentials"

Customer = to whom you need to keep their loyalty.

Ambassador= to whom you want to encourage them to promote & defend your business.

Any how, focus on your current customers/clients/embassadors instead of trying to get new ones. (Study: +40% of revenue is generated from your current buyers)

To whom goods are supplied is called "Customer"

while

To whom services are rendered is called "Client"

both terms may be used to refer to any type of business patron. When a company has ongoing interaction with someone, that person tends to be referred to as a client rather than a customer. The term "client" tends to suggest the need for long-term care and consideration

customers are the people who buy products or you may say they buy tangible things, but client is a person to whom we provide services.

The main difference between a customer and a client is that a protective, ongoing business relationship is formed with a client, but not necessarily with a customer. A customer just buy goods or any thing for short and long periods, rather a client is connected with your business for a long period.
