1. First of all, when you write for the web, you should observe the inverted pyramid format.  Meaning, get to point of your story right away because web users DO NOT READ.  THEY SCAN.  What does this mean? Readers or internet users tend to just browse on a story.  If they can't find the info they want in the first two sentences, they go away.  They don't spend much time on a blog or article that is long winding.

So, if you want to engage your readers, express the MEAT of your story in the first2 sentences.

2.  Make your sentences short and simple.  If readers find themselves gasping for breath when they read your story because the full stop is still way too far, you are likely driving them away.  

3.  Your content should be interesting - something that your readers can relate to, or something that excites them.

4. Your blog must be timely, unless you are writing about history.
