It depends on your goal. Teaching English through translation to young learners/young adults is not effective, in my opinion. After all, the main goal is communication, so how can one learn to communicate effectively through translation? Now, if the learner intends to use English for specific purposes, such as reading/studying/acquiring information, then yes, translation is helpful.

Pros Students that are capable of discussing subject material on an intellectual level Essays that are really enjoyable to grade (and sometimes blow you away) I generally find that secondary teachers have more control over their lesson plans and classes tend to be less structured (can be seen as a con or benefit I guess) Cons Students that think they are God's gift to earth (although I suspect this might be even worse in middle school) Maintaining board standards (ensuring that x amount of students obtain a pass or better in your class) Very long hours, the senior years are when most students decide to 'turn it around' for themselves and constantly need reassurance that their work is up to standard Good luck! I hope this helps

It could be very tasking but if handling with care it can result in a breakthrough for the teacher and learner.

I think it is important to teach translation to intermediate and secondary students as part of the foreign language teaching. This will be good, and I do not see any cons in that; but, in contrast, this will benefit them [students] much!

The pros and cons of teaching translation to students... In pros aspect, students can understand fully what the teacher implies. The students as well can express his/her thoughts/ ideas. In order to facilitate learning as teacher i have to find ways that my students can understand my lesson. They just don:t just learn the concept but rather the importance of the lesson.

The cons, well since mathematics should be taught in English , there are terms that cant be translate so there's difficulty on that part.
