Restricting / limiting access to a particular area. Normally when we say Access Control System (ACS onwards) we refer to Electronic locking system or electronic gates etc. An ACS can be standalone (available in normal electronic shops) that you can just buy and install on your doors, lockers etc etc with some kind of magnetic lock or door strike etc.

There are other ACS which are computer based and you can program, manage, control etc from a centralized computer. examples of which are Lenel/Onguard, GE/Facility Commander etc etc
