What is the main difference between Canon cameras and Nikon? it's really about the aperture quality?

In my own reason Nikon always wins in terms of specifications canon is good because most of the professional photographers uses canon ang same on nikon.. but i found out the difference the two of them is the noise on images specially adjusting or calibrating the raw iamges canon is more noise than the nikon.. so the thing is it's not wether the brand and quality because it's only a tool that provide what your needs in photography the matter is your creativity. because that two brands doing their best to satisfy the photogrpahers if you have some money t buy best dslr. go leica or hasselblad that2 brands is my only comments is the price. so heavy..so my advice is learn the basic and setting of the camera because still the best product of your camera is your creativity

The main difference between Nikon and Canon is ... the brand. No offense to the two big manufacturers.

For the past years, and certainly for the years to come, these two ones kept bringing better equipment every now and then. One day, Nikon is better, one day, Canon is better, and these differences are very subtle and subjective.

Going for Nikon or Canon is a matter of initial choice, once you 'sign' with one brand, this might be for long since there is no compatibility between them.

The main difference is "in your eye". Whether the most simple point-and-shoot or the most expensive/sophisticated medium format camera, the difference between making a good or a bad picture is in your skills, your creativity, your eye, not in the camera.

By the way, I've been a Canonist for the past decade. Not because they're "better", but because I invested significant amount of money in lenses (and cannot afford to start from scratch again) and I got so much used to the Canon 'logic' on their cameras. And a Fuji X-T1 enthousiast when it comes to street photography.

The top two camera manufacturers have a legacy of successful products. In the past, Nikon had a better advantage due to superior products. However, with the advancement of computer aided design and it's applications in lens design all manufacturers have a level playing field. It finally boils down to investments in R&D and which company comes out with a feature first into the market.

Max aperture size is a function of lens design. Faster lenses - meaning lenses that have a max aperture size (e.g. f/1.2 or f/1.4) for a given focal length, are also more expensive. This is due to high degree of optical precision and special lens elements that permit minimum image distortion or color aberration. So naturally, faster lenses coupled with a good camera body take images that are sharper and have better color rendition. 

However, to take a good picture. Good equipment is important but not the only factor. The creative eye is what counts. I agree with Bernard on his views in this regard.
