A company's sense of responsibility towards the community and environment (both ecological and social) in which it operates. Companies express this citizenship (1) through their waste and pollution reduction processes, (2) by contributing educational and social programs, and (3) by earning adequate returns on the employed resources

Corporate Social Responsibility, or CSR, is the responsibility a firm holds towards the environment in which it operates. For a company to function properly and effectively, the environment that it operates in needs to be balanced, and because the company operates within this environment, it has a social duty to look out for the interest of this environment. There are many components of CSR that are not only directed towards the exterior of the company (such as preserving the environment, giving back to the local communities, working with governments to promote the well-being and development of the community), but there are also areas of CSR which can be directed towards the company itself and its employees. These tools of CSR can take the form of developing and training the employee, ensuring health and safety guidelines are met, as well as compensating employees in an appropriate manner. In my opinion as internal CSR is strengthened, employees will in turn not only be more motivated but will work with the company to promote CSR directed towards the larger community without it being an obligation.
