The responsibilities of the Delivery Manager and the Project Manager are not contradicted.

As Mr. Mohammed Saei said, the project manager is responsible for achieving the project products while the delivery manager is only responsible for issues related to products delivery (to customers or to store ... etc.)

If you mean the difference bewteen the whole work reponsibility and the delivery reponsibility , then the project manager will be responsible of the whole project not including the delivery task because it is out of the boundary of the project.

Project Managers lead a specific effort from beginning to implementation. They work from set deliverables and move to the next project when they are done. Service Delivery Managers oversee the delivery of the service.

DM has a better understanding of the client and his requirements which he shares with the PM so that they can develop the right solution. The PM has a better understanding of the project/technology management issues and the project reporting which he shares with the DM so that he can keep the client up to date.

In my company we don't make the distinction - both job titles mean the same thing..

In an organization, a PM can be called a Delivery Manager and vice versa.

However, in our organisation, a Delivery Manager was given additional responsibilities like procurement, plus the Project Management responsibilities in managing scope, schedule and budget for the projects they were managing.

Finally this role assignment still depend on the way an organization wants to implement these roles.

Experience from various quarters conclude that,

Project Manager and Delivery Manager are different job roles - PM's deliver project solutions where as the Delivery Manager is an operational functional job that does provide resources to projects for example.

A PM can be called a Delivery Manager and vice versa.

Delivery Manager can be given additional responsibilities like procurement, vendor management and account management.

The PM can be purely given Project Management responsibilties in managing scope, schedule and budget for the projects they are managing.

The assignment still would depend on the way an organization wants to implement these roles.
