Hello Ms. Rima - You've put forth a valid question when it comes to CSR, and my answer would be that CSR is more effective when it's the job of all employees. There's a term for it called PSR - Personal Social Responsibility - and it involves individuals making choices that benefit other indviduals, society and the environment.

I've worked for an NGO and have been involved in implementing some interesting CSR projects. Samsung for example, has an Employee volunteer program where about50 employees from Korea were sent for2 to3 weeks to India to volunteer for Education, Renovation and Medical camps. Hyundai has a similar approach but in addition to sending employees, they also select500 Korean youth to volunteer for a month in India. These are much sustainable approaches than just donating money to a cause, because you also instill a sense of being a global citizen among the participants.

CSR is a commitment by a company to manage its roles in a society as producer, employer, marketer, customer and citizen in a responsible and sustainable manner. There are4 indicators used to measure CSR - environmental impact, corporate governance, social impact and workplace practices. I feel that when formulating the CSR policy, the company should take into consideration inputs from the various teams so that the CSR policy is more inclusive and has a participatory approach. For instance, HR has a very important role to play in formulating workplace practices and incorporating it into the organisation culture.
