Do you think that sales should have the authority to give special discount?

Price can be either fixed or subject to discount. Some companies introduce a discount scheme, mainly based on volume. Is it wise to give sales staff the authority to offer additional discount?

yes, it is a way to increase sales but at a time when there are some problems like season is getting off and the company has alot of products in godowns which is not useful next year.

If the company has already announced its discount scheme in their marketting campaign and sales staff offers additional it raises questions in the minds of customer he becomes suspicious and may think the product is fake. It is better discounts be offered by the company for the authenticity of the product

No, a salesman should not have authority to give special discount coz only the management knows when and where the items should be on discount. A salesman duty is to assist the customer in the best way and to help them choosing their required items. If the price chnage will be in salesman hand then many problems can arise, for example in one outlet one salesman changed the price but in other outlet its high price so it will bring missmanagement and customer trust will go. If the discount/prices fix by the management and changed in all stores at atime, we can get more sale.

It can work both ways depending on the product and type of market you are in, sometimes discounts can lessen a products' value and undermine its strength or resolve in the market and on the other hand it can help to accomplish sales/reach targets and maintain a re-process cycle assuringly.

Giving the authority of additional discounts to the sales man is not a wise decision and is not in favor of the company. In case of volumetric sale the decision of additional discount must be left to the higher authority and credit of such sale should be given to the concerned salesman. Giving such authority may result in the devaluation of the product, which will not produce fruitful results in the longer run.

Companies have various approaches when it comes to the authority given to salespeople when setting client pricing.

Some offer the salespeople no authority on pricing and the management team sets the price on every deal.

Other companies provide salespeople pricing tiers that salespeople must stay within.

A third way this is handled is that companies offer their salespeople tremendous latitude for client pricing.

Not necessary. A sales man's duty is to sell the product or service at the prescribed price and not depending on special discount. A good sales man even if he has the authority to give special discount will not just like that give it away to a customer.
