i would get as close to him as i can ,learn and polish my skills ,it is easier learning from a new comer as he is willing to open up and share knowledge as he is trying to fit in and built new friendships.

there is no use of fighting teritories with him as you already know he is more qualified and will win at the end.the best thing is to learn from him and become as skilled as he is and try to excell.

First, I don't think comparing your skill with other much more tp a NEW colleage is not at all appropreate or cool to nowadays young professional Secondly, as an HR personnel we shld be more understanding that there are greater person than we are as there are lesser than we are after all no one is perfect and lastly, comparison breed jealousy, conflict, ill feeling which are not good at all to any organization so why bother to compare...

First of all I would treat him with all respect as I would respect all members. Secondly, everyone has their unique skills, and I believe I may have some skills that that person doesn't.

I would make every effort to get to know him better and even learn skills that is missing from my skills. I would see this as a learning curve rather than getting jealous of the person.

First i think if you MUST evalute yourself before others do in order to know your status and your value in the market and in the filed you work in , Second if i join new company other persons are better than me because only and only they have the experince of the company or the place but during time and hard work i will reach to be same same as them.

If your organization has competency based performance management system, you can easily knows which areas you have to need to improve. However, you can develop yourself or your organizational Training & Development plan. HR will compare the competency for over all staff, but does not say to share with all staff.

I will say, I am uncomparable, I am unique, yes I am learning every moment, so I am trying and developing my qualities every day.

Now if my colleague is more qualified, then it is very simple for me. Try enhancing my qualities, capabilities and performances.

If a more qualified person is appointed as my sub-ordinate by HR, one more thing,  I will do, surely, I will start searching for another opportunity.
