Java8(released on march2014) has been one of the biggest release after Java5 annotations and generics, but still companies prefers java5,because of its feature and compatibility with other frameworklike hibernate and spring (latest versions), due to this reason i will go for java5, but if you want to use lastest java version then go for java8 ,first study java8 features and then use it.

SPRING MVC Security of Spring MVC is pure awesomeness. It all relies on Spring Security and can utilize all the features Spring Security has. Spring Security features @PreAuthorize annotations, that make writing security rules easy and with minimum code. These annotations can be put on top of each Spring MVC controller method and it is possible to use SPEL (Spring Expression Language) at the same time.

As Spring Security works throughout the entire application, then also annotations set in other interfaces or classes work in the same way, blocking user access from web to some particular method.

Architects preferred Struts when spring was not released. But now spring have all security stuffs, so it is preferable. Also it can work good for transaction management and we can easily combine hibernate and more compatible in all the ways.

As a matter of fact all frameworks have something good and something extra(unwanted).

I as solution architecht always prefer to develop my own framework where I will get all the necessary advantage from all the frameworks and remove the unwanted features of those framework. This not only saves the framework to become heavyweight but also help me to address the domain specific challenges.

Hybrid framework will be the answer. Where I can hybrid any and every framework from Webwork, Struts, Spring, ROO, Hibernate, JSF, Scooter and many others to get the perfect blend for organisation requirements.
