COS(pi)=KWH/sqrt[(KVARH)^2+(KWH)^2] using Power triangle

BY using the following formulas:

KW=KWH/24

KW=(√3 X V X A X Cosᴓ) /1000

Cosᴓ = (KW X1000) / (√3 X V X A)

Answer is :

KWH/sqrt[(KWH^2)+(KVARH^2)]=cos(PH)

we can find simply by the power triangle formula

cos(phi)=KWH/sqrt[(KVARH)^2+(KWH)^2]

  • It is possible to find  cos phi from KWH meter if load current and applied voltage is constant.
  • From KWH meter record the units (KWH) consumed in1 hour. This will be KW rating of load.
  • Measure voltage and current passing to load.
  • Cos Phi = (KWH consumed in1 hour)/ ( voltage X load current)
  • Accuracy of calculation will be dependent on how constant is load current.
