They would no longer be considered for a job. At the Interview stage, an applicant needs to articulate why they are the best candidate for the job.Chewing Gum during the Interview proves to me that the candidate is not serious and lacks respect and discipline. This is the basic discipiline.

Chewing gum is bad manners and definitely a negative first impression but as an interviewer you can not judge them for that. If told in a right way, they will only learn and not make that same mistake again in the future.

I would just ask him to drop his resume and leave.

Saiful Islam Hiron

I will not consider this person because he is not serious to get a job, If he or she scored highest.

It would be innappropriate and rude hence would not be considered

I'd give the candidate minus20 points in my head for chewing gum, ask him/her to throw it out and continue. A lot of the sales staff we hired for stores weren't as polished as when we were done grooming them.

Although98 out of100 candidates do know the basics.

The candidate's  action clearely indiactes  his mental attitude towards the interview (& interviewers). It wont be wise to consider such a person even if  the  interview is for a 'chewing gum salesman"

Professionaly i ll give him some minus points and ll judge him with tough questions and situations , We may find some genuis hiden behind bad attitude.

Allen Pereira
by Allen Pereira , Service In Charge / Repair shop Manager , Fast Track Lubes and Services

I would look at his overall behaviour, try to figure out if his is nervous or stressed out, if this is the case and he is chewing gum, i would  still consider him. If however if he displays arrogance and uses the gum chewing to make a point that he is better and supeior to the rest... Then i would not consider him.

Smitha J Benny
by Smitha J Benny , Hr & Marketing Manager , 3NENERGY

I would ask him to stop chewing It And continue the Interview. May be he doesnt know how to turn  up for interview or may  be he is not serious for a job. Need to analysis it, if he founds to be good enough for a job, appoint him but guide him not to mess with Company Rules & regulation
