Reference and CV checks and the application form are the golden triangle of selecting candidates. What do you say?

If you found your own company/start-up before, you don't have references. 

The Application form does not show how skilled a candidate is, or how his performance at work is. The application form can be easily ghostwritten.

 An telephone/interview + assessment center would be ideal, after the CV checks.
