Lean is all about doing more with less, i.e. less inventory, less staff, less cost and more efficiency, more productivity.
The answer is YES, it should be a characterstic of any effecient supply chain that it should be resiliant as well as Lean, Today , sucessful businesses are working on similar business models especially Japaneese comapnies such as Toyota, Mitshubushi corp , Coke , Nike , Zara Fashion,
Finally, Wal mart (known to ba a case history of being sucessful through effecient supply chain models)

I think the question needs some more supporting, because if this question is being asked for a company which is seasonality based then i don't think recovery to any planning failure will be easy or cost based on loss effective. Secondly it also depends upon longitivity of busniess and the goals set for breakeven.
