As a Male Secretary or Document Controller, I am trying to find some jobs or opportunities in UAE for my next job after here in Saudi Arabia. But unfortunately, as i browse in some websites including Bayt i found out that most companies in Dubai and Abu-Dhabi are only hiring females as secretary or clerks. How can I used my expertise, skills and experience in landing a good job there soon?
It could be an idea to change the name of the 'secretarial' role you are looking for when you go online to research jobs.
There are males doing office jobs which tend to be called Executive Assistant, Executive Officer , Administrative Officer, Office Administrator and sometimes Personal Assistant (Office). These can be different names but they are very closely linked to be secretarial roles.
Make sure that your CV highlights your role more as a higher level of office worker. Clearly state your experience and what you contributed to the previous company and your achievements, and less on the day to day 'secretarial' tasks that you carried out. lf you can, do not use the word secretary in your CV unless you really have to because it is your present job title for example. The aim on the CV is to show that you are a good office worker looking for a new direction.
Indicate that you have good interpersonal skills and can communicate with a wide range of people. Emphasize that you have transferrable skills which can be used to the benefit of the company. This shows that you are willing to learn, adaptable and more importantly you will fit in quickly and smoothly with the company.
Keep looking. Keep striving and you will get there.
Offcourse female secertary has more opportunities specially in GCC / Gulf region. Minimum qualification required is Bachelor Degree in any dicipline but mostly companies hire experienced employees. Keep trying.
The edge would be if the applicant have a Driving License and can able to communicate in Arabic. Arabic language becomes a must not just a plus.
Can you comprehend what "Secretary of State" means? Male or Female?
similarly, secretary position is not endowed to female gender!
Secretary should possess more attitude than the qualification, that is

PERSONAL JUDGEMENT SKILLS

Unfortunately, mostly female candidates are apt at these tendencies.. Mostly Politeness! yet,
Most of the bosses prefer male secretary to female for accompanying him most of the time!
so, dont worry!

Since this job is mainly a female job now in UAE, I would recommend considering a major CHANGE. Build on your previous expeince and network to do something DIFFERENT!
Helping startups would be something easy for you to do especially if it is in a SIMILAR business that you work in earlier.
