What kind of applications can we develop with .net framework?

Adding to Mahmoud's answer , Anything to everything as long as the UI or front-end can communicate with Windows (.NET servers) , in some cases , windows is also a middle tier for flowthrough applications so not directly communicating with front end , but somewhere in the flow.
