Why we need FAT inspection ?

FAT stands for factory acceptance test.

We need FAT to make sure that the manufactured product meets the specifications  and requirements agreed on . It is done by vendors in the manufacturing process to make sure before shipment. 

To confirm product ordered meets all the specifications before shipment and thereby avoid rejection on receipt causing delay in installation & commissioning. FAT also helps to identify and report all punch items and rework any to be done before shipment. Sometimes, FAT also includes design integrity tests.

In engineering and its various sub disciplines, acceptance testing is a test conducted to determine if the requirements of a specification or contract are met. It may involve chemical tests, physical tests, or performance tests.

The product should meet the project specifications demanded by client or concultant, in turn manufacturer's do the factory test for the product to prove the requirements of the product.

 

The vendor tests the system in accordance with the clients approved test plans and specifications to show that system is at a point to be installed and tested on site.

The Fat is Practical way to test and verify the correct operation of the safety instrumented system

I agree with their answers below and also the purpose of FAT inspection by the vendors or manufacturers is to records all the testings, inspections, or any quality control activities being done to meet the client standards and requirements. This is a proof that the manufacturers monitored the production line to make a quality product.

A FAT or Factory acceptance test is usually performed at the vendor prior to shipping to a client. The vendor tests the system in accordance with the clients approved test plans and specifications to show that system is at a point to be installed and tested on site.

 

It’s an essential aspect of the whole system lifecycle and should be performed by experienced personnel. Time spent doing a FAT will lead to fewer problems when the equipment is installed on site.
