You have to be friendly when it comes to using social media and in order to make people want to follow you on twitter you have to provide them with interesting and insightful information.
You can participate in Twitter chats especially the ones related to your industry and share your opinions, follow the people in your industry, post some funny facts once in a while and most importantly be active, be social and time your tweets throughout the day.

In this lens I will talk about free ways to get targeted followers..
1.
Be engaging: Instead of just creating an account, businesses will need to participate more on Twitter by using functionalities such as retweets, mentions, topical conversation and hashtags.
personally I would follow a company's twitter account if they tweet content that makes me laugh or think, links to my topics of interest or things I can use such as discount or online resources.

Make it easy for others to follow: Companies should make sure that the icon to follow on Twitter is prominently displayed on their Web site.
Employees can also include a link to the Twitter account in their e-mail signatures.

Use relevant #hashtags: Do some research and find out if there are any popular hashtags relevant to your business.
Don’t just randomly start hashtagging every #word in your #tweet that you think might be important, that’s annoying.
Find out if there are interest groups, clubs, events, etc.
that have an ongoing conversation relevant to your business and find opportunities to join in.
You’re joining a conversation, so make sure you have something to contribute.
4.
Don’t start a Tweet with @: This is general Twitter syntax that many people don’t understand.
When you start a Tweet with a Twitter username (ie.
@ahmad) the only people that will see it are the people that are following BOTH you and the person you’re mentioning.
Good when you’re replying to a Tweet from someone and carrying on a conversation, not good when you’re trying to reach a broad audience with your message.
The solution? Add any other character before the @ symbol to make sure all of your followers see the Tweet – most people use a period or a dash.
5.When someone follows you, follow them back: You can do this manually or use a service like ToolSpot to automate it.
Since Twitter won’t let you follow an unlimited number of users, keep your following/follower ratio in check by using a tool like toolspot.org to unfollow users who don’t follow you back.

Here's how I grow Twitter followers fast (works always):

1. Follow your industry's top influencers and you'll see their own followers following you back - this always works. Use Followerwonk (tool) to find them - pay attention to those with tons of followers and also have a high engagement rates.

2. Retweet top industry influencers to get noticed by their followers as well the influencer.

3. Show you are worth following by posting useful and relevant contents - research topics your target market is interested in and post helpful updates pointing them to useful articles.

4. Post quotes and trends from your industry/ field - people always love these.

5. Post frequently - daily, a few hours apart (say4-8 hours interval). use twitter time management tools such as hootsuite to post in advance.

6. BE PRESENT AND RESPONSIVE - Engage your followers - show them you're not a bot. Everyday, respond to mentions of your brand/ twitter handle, thank retweeters etc.

Your followers on Twitter should be more than just numbers; they should be your customers, potential customers and fans.
That's why the best way to include your company's followers is to provide them with valuable content and service.
If your social media strategy is really effective, your followers will multiply and you will, in a sense, go viral.

1- Scream: Let people know you're there.
- Add a link on your website lead to your twitter account.
- Send an e-mail to your subscribers telling them about your account and why they should follow you.
- Ask your employees to follow the company account and invite their friends.
- Share your account among your other social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn..
etc)
2- Following: It's a tool to tell others that you're there and interested about them, and they may do the same to give back your favor.

3- Retweet: Works the same as the previous step.
When you retweet interesting tweets, those who you retweeted their tweets will visit your account to see if there are any interesting tweets they can retweet in return (moves us to the next step)
4- Content is King: Share interesting diverse content, when your content is valuable to more people, more people will follow you, and more important: more will retweet your content.
(It's always very useful to develop a content plan.)
5- Promoted tweets: Use some money and promote your most interesting posts.
