What is the difference between a web developer and a web designer?

Developer does all the things backend as well as frontend if needed while the designer only does the frontend thats the most simplest i can answer :)

Developer is a person who makes a website functional. While designer is someone who just makes the website look great.

A web developer is one that develops applications and functionality for the Internet.  A web designer is a graphic artist who develops and styles objects for the Internet. 

• Web design

Think about web designers as those who transform an idea, or a story, into a visually appealing design, and use their layout to build the user experience throughout the whole website. They design the website’s look and feel. As an architect would create a plan of your house prior to start building it, similarly a web designer would model the layout of your website before a web developer can start developing it.

• Web development

Think about web developers as those who turn the designs into a live website. Web developers uses web languages and software tools to develop the design and functionality of a website. Notice, that web developers are further split into two sub-categories; front-end developers, and back-end developers. I see front-end developers as the connection between both web designers and back-end developers, as having a little knowledge of both, would allow a front-end developer to build a fully working website. A front-end developer is the one who builds the interface, and provides the layout as the interaction between the back-end of the website and the user.

 

A web designer mainly create the graphical layout for a website using photoshop or illustrator, whereas a web developer has to take care of User Interface and make the website more interactive with help of HTML/CSS/JS codes. Both works together for a perfect website.

Web Design 

Simply Design web pages using HTML CSS Javascript ,Jquery or other Designing Tools

Web Developer

Web Developer use programming languages to make web pages data driven functionality.

Languages as like C# php,ruby,python etc.

Note:  Javascript is programming language as webpage desiging language.

Web Designers create the interactive interface of a website. ( they use numerous design applications to create the layout and visual elements of a website).

Web Developers create the website functionalities giving the website life. :) (Web developers use JavaScript, HTML, PHP  and other programming languages to give a website its functionalities).

 

A web designer have knowledge about HtML, CSS and some basic JavaScript, but on the other hand a web developer have both client side technologies i.e. HTML, CSS and JavaScript and Server side technologies i.e. PHP, ASP or Java.

 

Now a days wed designers called UI/UX developer.

maybe because developer is talking about landbasis in net enhancing calculation the site runs..@ web designer i think it is about networking strategy.
